Lancaster & District Fairtrade group gave support to the Lancaster Branch of the Soroptimists on their walk through the city centre on Saturday 21st September. They were raising awareness of modern-day slavery.The walk began at the ‘Freedom’ Bus which was parked in Dalton Square and made its way to the Slave Memorial on the Quay before returning.
In conjunction with the event a mobile ‘Modern-Day Slavery’ interactive exhibition was displayed in St. Thomas’s Church. Participators were able to follow the journey and experiences of 3 modern day slaves all of whom now have their freedom and a future to look forward to.
The event was organised by the Pan-Lancashire Anti-Slavery Partnership.
