SIT DOWN FOR BREAKFAST – STAND UP FOR FARMERS
During Fairtrade Fortnight 29th February to 13th March 2016 we were reminded that before we finish eating breakfast in the morning we’ve depended on more than half the world. Millions of farmers and workers in developing countries work hard to grow the food we eat. Yet many don’t earn enough to know where their next meal is coming from.
“Big Fairtrade Breakfast” events took place around the district during the fortnight. Schools and other groups encouraged families and individuals to have at least one meal or snack that includes any Fairtrade drink plus an item of Fairtrade food. Participants learned that if we all started our day with Fairtrade, many more could feed people they care about, all year round.
Cafés that served at least one Fairtrade drink and an item of Fairtrade food during the fortnight included:
The Cornerstone Café, Sulyard Street, on Dalton Square, LA1 1PX
Juicafe, Market Street, Lancaster, LA1 1JG
Lancaster Brewery, Lancaster Leisure Park, Wyresdale Rd, LA1 3LA
Novel Café, 18 New Street, Lancaster LA1 1EZ
The Radish, 24 New Street, Lancaster, LA1 1EG
Victoria Institute Drop In, Caton, LA2 9QT
Whale Tail Café, Penny Street, Lancaster, LA1 1XN
